Directed by Jaimelyn Gray, auditions for WOMEN LAUGHING ALONE WITH SALAD, by Sheila Callaghan, will be held on Monday, July 27th, from 7pm-10pm via Zoom.
Roles:
Tori - 20-25, impossibly slim
Sandy - late 50s, an upper east side grande dame
Meredith - 30-35, slightly larger build, rockabilly-type
Guy - late 20’s, Cute and scrubby
Woman Laughing Alone with Salad is best described as a trashy feminist deconstruction of a popular internet meme. What’s on the menu for Meredith, Tori, and Sandy, the three women in Guy’s life? Healthy lifestyles, upward mobility, meaningful sex? Or self-loathing and distorted priorities? Inspired by the strangely ubiquitous advertising trend of picturing attractive women blissfully eating salad, award-winning playwright Sheila Callaghan breaks all the rules of our image-obsessed culture in Women Laughing Alone With Salad. This raw comedy is served with a side of feminism and tossed with audacious imagery, biting social critique, and devastating humor.

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will begin in August with what will work best for the team, but our usual schedule is Monday-Thursday from 6-10pm, and four hours on Saturdays to total 20 hrs/wk. However, those hours may not be best for the current work environment in the sense that four hours in front of the computer screen in addition to daily life may prove too taxing. This will have to be a mindfulness exercise in progress.
STIPEND
For the purpose of transparency, our stipends historically have been $100/show/artist as we are a new company solely reliant on crowdfunding. This is absolutely something we are working on as it is in our mission to pay all artists a living wage when they work for us. But right now, we can only promise at least the $100. We certainly hope the experience of working with us is a value outside of a stipend. If this is a deal-breaker, we understand, although we would like the opportunity to discuss this with you before you make your final decision. All of our staff, including the Artistic Director, are volunteer.
PERFORMANCES
We have tentatively scheduled a virtual reading on August 17th in addition to the virtual performances September 20 – October 4, 2020. We are not completely sure of the tech on these performances, but they may include both a live and recorded streamed versions.
