We asked the Gruesome Playground Injuries actor to talk a little about her process.

Kayleen is by far one of the most complex characters I've had to dissect, mainly because of the nature of her personality. She's a victim of ongoing abuse and neglect, and yet she's so much more than that. She cares and feels deeply, but exists in a constant self-preserving state of containing her feelings as a means to avoid getting hurt.
Finding what it's like to be a person who lives in our world in spite of her experiences has required lots of research including tons of reading and YouTube video watching :)
Definitely one of the most fun aspects of my research has been exploring the different ages Kayleen goes through. Watching old childhood videos and imagining what it would mean to live in a time a few generations before mine has been a blast. I'm so excited to share these discoveries onstage in Gruesome Playground Injuries.
